Welcome & Inclusion Summary
Last year, a Welcome and Inclusion Committee was formed to work on creating a new statement for Trinity, in response to Reconciling Work's invitation to expand our welcome. Leesa Sherborne, Corky Siegfriedt and I worked on creating a new statement that would encompass a broader statement of welcome. We worked hard to make sure our language expressed what we feel Trinity is doing, and works toward doing. In addition to creating the new statement to be approved at our annual meeting, the committee provided education opportunities to invite folks in our own community who may see themselves in the statement to further understand why such a statement is necessary. We met with members related to the LGBT!IA+, members with close personal connection to different races and ethnicities, and folks related to the ability and disability community. Following these sessions, we met one more time to look more closely at our statement and discuss how we might live into this commitment in our faith life and ministry. In the coming year, you'll see more opportunities to learn and live into our statement of welcome. ~Lauren Busey
Here at Trinity, we fully welcome every person into community, both as members and leaders.
We seek to provide a place of true sanctuary in a world that too often offers judgment instead of grace, and exclusion rather than embrace.
We celebrate racial and ethnic diversity, and welcome people of every race, culture, and background, including Indigenous peoples and immigrants.
We rejoice to fully include LGBTQIA+ people.
We embrace people with physical, mental health, and developmental disabilities, and people who are neurodivergent. Our building offers a safe and physically accessible environment.
We happily include people wherever they are on their faith journey, including seekers with deep doubts and questions, those who are new to the faith, and seasoned long-time believers.
We believe that when Jesus commanded his followers to live the Gospel with ALL people, he meant it, and we continually strive to live into that call.
