Music has a rich tradition at Trinity Lutheran Church. Whether you’re interested in singing in a choir, playing handbells, playing in the worship band, being involved in vocal or instrumental solos or small ensembles, or song leading, opportunities at Trinity abound. Our music ranges from Bach to Black Gospel; Contemporary Christian to Classical, and music from all around the globe.

Please contact Philip McPeek, our Director of Worship and Music if you’re interested in participating musically at Trinity.

Choirs 2016.jpeg

Vocal Choir

In these times of continuing pandemic, we have one combined choir that is rehearsing on Thursday evenings at 8pm. Rehearsals are currently held in the sanctuary so there is more space for distancing and air circulation, and all singers are required to wear a mask during the entire rehearsal. This choir sings a variety of music, typically SATB, both accompanied and unaccompanied. Singers are strongly encouraged to attend all weekly rehearsals and Sundays when we sing in 9:30am worship (2-3 Sundays per month), though because this a pandemic schedule and we are currently combining two ensembles with differing rehearsal schedules into one, a good degree of flexibility is allowed.

Handbell Choir

Our handbell choir currently rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7pm in the sanctuary, and all ringers are required to wear a mask during the entire rehearsal. We ring music of a variety of difficulty levels, and are currently ringing 2-octave music as we seek 3 more ringers to allow to return to 3-octave music. Ringers need not have played bells before, but must be able to read music and count. Presence at all weekly rehearsals and on Sundays every 4-6 weeks when we ring in 9:30am worship are necessary. A roster of substitutes is available for any necessary absences, and ringers are asked to secure their own substitutes for their absences, notifying the Director of Worship and Music of who will be substituting.

Pre-Pandemic Vocal Choirs

Prior to the pandemic, the Sanctuary Choir sang at the 8:30am service September through May, with one Sunday off per month. Rehearsals were Thursday evenings, 8:00-9:30 PM. The group sang a wide variety of literature of varying difficulty levels with a leaning toward more traditional literature. The Spirit Ensemble sang at the 11am service September through May, with one Sunday off per month. The group rehearsed one evening a month, typically the Friday immediately preceding the first Sunday of the month, in the home of an ensemble member, and was preceded by a simple meal or potluck supper. The music used was generally easy and in a variety of contemporary styles. We hope to return to a schedule more like this as pandemic conditions, etc. allow.

Instrumental Music

We delight in a variety of instrumentation to accompany our singing and enrich our worship at Trinity! Guitar, bass, drums, clarinet, oboe, violin, flute, harp, didgeridoo- you name it, we can find a way to help you praise God by playing in worship. All ages are welcome, too! Contact Philip McPeek, Director of Worship and Music, for more information.
