Last week, I went back to Valparaiso University, my alma mater, for the funeral of John Steven Paul.  He was a contemporary and very involved in the drama and theater programs and classes at Valpo.

So much of what he did was focused to give and serve.  As we reflected on his life, it was obvious that his impact and influence will last a long time to come.

As we heard the stories of his life and its impact, the words of Revelation 14 kept swirling in my head - "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord ... that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!"

Each day, we make choices and influence the world around us . . . not just for the moment, but for a long time into the future.  We have the chance to inspire others.  We have the opportunity to teach others.  We have the resources to invest for others.  Certainly, our deeds WILL follow us.

A simple little prayer might be - Dear God, help me live today that I will be pleased to have my words and actions remembered.  The life of your Son continues to inspire and guide me.  Help me do the same for others.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
