Trinity has a history of supporting Elijah's Pantry in Logan Square. Each month, we donate food to the pantry and throughout the year, we go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository on their behalf. We work with St. Philip Lutheran Church (in Glenview) and we earn food credits for our food pantry.
We were there for three hours and we packed 2,520 bags for their Nourish for Knowledge program. This program is designed to send bags of food home with kids who need food for the weekend. The bags included cereal, yogurt, applesauce, milk, a chocolate protein drink and tuna. At the end of the three hour shift, we were proud of the work we'd accomplished but learned that 6,000 bags are distributed for a weekend. There's a lot of work to be done! The Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes food to many soup kitchens, food pantries, and schools throughout Cook County and the Chicagoland area. In the last year, the Food Depository distributed more than 46 million pounds of food, and the are packing more this year to meet the growing need.
It's a great organization serving the needs of our community. Check out their website here.
