A Lenten Devotional by Ron & Suellen Moen

“Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold I will do something new, now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”- Isaiah 43:18-19

A Lenten Reflection by Vicki Donati

“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the  Spirit in the  wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.    He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over,  he  was famished.” Luke 4:1-2

A Lenten Reflection by Claude Groves

I do not look forward to Lent. I haven’t been willing to participate but to a limited extent –  showing up on Ash Wednesday to sing with the choir and “get ashes”, then avoiding the singing of “Alleluia” while waiting for the celebratory time of Easter.

A Lenten Wilderness

It's easy for me to feel Lent as a wilderness simply by looking outside. The snow is getting old, the sky is grey, the dark comes too quickly. Its easy to feel alone.

Remember that you are dust...

And to dust you shall return.

Today is the day, it is the beginning of our journey to Easter.  For some, myself included, Lent is a time of wilderness.

Does God Like Scooby Doo?

The question came at the end of Sunday's children's sermon.

We were talking about dogs and cats ... how they don't always get along ... sorta like people.

Did you know?

Trinity has a history of supporting Elijah's Pantry in Logan Square.  Each month, we donate food to the pantry and throughout the year, we go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository on their behalf.  We work with St. Philip Lutheran Church (in Glenview) and we earn food credits for our food pantry.

Run!

This weekend marked the Chicago marathon. Runners come together from all fifty states to run, what is considered, one of the top five major marathons around the world.  They train for months and set their own goals.

Lazarus, Wake Up!!

This past Sunday our ninth graders were officially welcomed to Hi-League.  They may not have asked for the welcome, or even appreciated it, but they were welcomed.  Our upperclassmen gathered at church around 5:15 a.m.,

And... We're Back!

Phew!  We have officially kicked off the school year.  This past Sunday was our Youth Sunday and Sunday School Opener.  This day feels fairly overwhelming to me.  We have A LOT going on...  The Hi-League, our high school youth group, leads our worship services.

Mine

It happened once again just a few days ago.  When being introduced, I was referenced as "My Pastor."

I always appreciate that designation.  There's a difference:

"...Their Deeds Follow Them!"

Last week, I went back to Valparaiso University, my alma mater, for the funeral of John Steven Paul.  He was a contemporary and very involved in the drama and theater programs and classes at V

Take Time

Here's a quote from an anonymous source which wasn't included in Sunday's sermon.

Take time to think; it is the source of power.

"We Have No Power"

Recent storms and other conditions have put some people in the dark ... literally.

Don't Wait!

106 years ... that's a really long life!
106 years ... that's a lot of time to live and share!
106 years ... that seems like plenty of time to get things done.

1 Corinthians 13 - Written by a Mom

This piece didn't get included in the message on Mother's Day ... but it has some good thoughts.

Getting Started

Twenty five years ago, Blogs were never talked about as part of the ministry tasks and opportunities for a pastor.  Bible study was something we knew about.  Worship
